Baotu Spring Park

Built in 1956, Baotu Spring Park is named after Baotu Spring. Covering a total area of 54,945 square meters including 12,221 square meters waters, the park is a traditional Chinese garden characterized by springs. The park is divided into ten major viewing areas, such as Baotu Spring, Three Halls, Shangzhi Hall, Jade Rinsing Spring, Bamboo Garden, and Memorial Hall to Li Qingzhao. Located in the west part of the park, also called Luo Spring in ancient times, Baotu Spring has a long history of more than 3,500 years. In the Northern Wei Dyansty, it was called Eying Spring because of the Eying Temple by the spring. In the Northern Song Dynasty, it was formally called Baotu Spring. In the Jin Dynasty, a stele was erected by the spring, saying that Baotu Spring was First among the 72 famous springs. Baotu Spring bubbled up day and night from three jets and splashes all over, sounding like a distant roll of thunder, looking like boiling waves and presenting a magnificent sight named Baotu Gushing into the Sky, one of the eight major scenes of Jinan. Many poems and articles in praising of the Baotu Spring have been left behind by emperors and numerous scholars and men of letters of different dynasties, such as Zeng Gong, Yuan Haowen, Zhang Yanghao, Wang Shouren, Pu Songling, Emperor Kangxi and Emperor Qianlong. By the spring there are many inscriptions by celebrities. The two Chinese characters Watch Billows on the west wall of the Pavilion were written by Zhang Jinqin, a calligrapher in the Ming Dynasty. The three Chinese characters Baotu Spring inscribed on the stele in the spring water were written by Hu Zanzong, Governor of Shandong in the Ming Dynasty. The other three Chinese characters First Spring were written by Wang Zhonglin, a calligrapher in the Qing Dynasty.

Located behind Jade Rinsing Spring, the Memorial Hall covers an area of 362 square meters. It was built in national style and features according to historial record about Li Qingzhao's former residence by Jade Rinsing Spring. Consisting of pavilions, corridors and the main gate, shaded by green bamboo, the courtyard looks plain and quiet. Mr. Guo Moruo, an eminent writer of modern China, left a lot of inscriptions here. Former Residence of Li Qingzhao consists of halls, corridors and bridges. In the Jingzhi Hall and Youzhu Hall there is Ling Qingzhao's waxwork, and calligraphy and paintings of different dynasties. Behind the former residence is the Zhouying Spring, where the stream flows under a small bridge, surrounded by weeping willows, presenting a charming scene.
