Red Gate Route is the principal climbing route from ancient to nowadays and also the imperial route when emperors ascending the mountain. On the both sides of the route, thriving ancient trees stand upright and the stone stairs wander up to the summit. There are 8 ancient temples, more than 200 pieces of stone tablets and more than 300 inscribed cliffs.
The route from Dai Temple to Red Gate and then to peak of the mountain is antique and traditional one. It begins from Yaocan Pavilion and ends at Jade Emperor Summit. The culture relics and natural landscape are interwoven perfectly. This unique and harmonious combination is right believed as essence of Mount Taishan.
The stairs named Eighteen Bends from Middle Heavenly Gate to South Heavenly Gate is the most precipitous and challenging flight. The inclination of this flight is even 70 to 80 degrees, and the ascending distance is inconceivably 400 meters in less 1 kilometer horizontal distance. If time limiting, tourists could climb to Middle Heavenly Gate then arrive to South Heavenly Gate by cable trolley in 7 minutes just like having a skyrocketing rising. The route is constructed during thousands of years so as to be rather ideal route of touring.
