Arch Marking Confucius' Visit

Confucius is the most famous thinker in China. He was born in 551 B.C. He and Mencius were the two representative thinkers during the period of Spring and Autumn. Confucius nevertheless received a fine education, but he created a way of thought called Confucianism which influenced China for thousands of years. His philosophy taught that one should be loyal to one’s family, friends, and rulers and treat others as one would like to be treated. He helped people learn about nature, world, and human, and he also helped the emperors to rule their kingdoms successfully. In Confucius’ opinion, Mount Taishan is a symbol of spirit, life, and society rather than a high mountain. Mount Taishan had so huge influence on Confucius that in The Analects of Confucius, the article compiled by his disciples, Mount Taishan was mentioned regularly. He even mentioned Mount Taishan in his Song of Approaching Death before he died, and he passed away seven days after he made the song. In order to commemorate this great thinker, a stone memorial archway named Arch Marking Confucius’ Visit was built at the foot of Mount Taishan in the Ming Dynasty.
