Pagoda Tree Like A Crouching Dragon is a well-known ancient tree of Mount Taishan. The tree is at the western entrance of Doumu Palace. It was planted in the Ming Dynasty and was struck down to the ground by lightning. Later the tree grew new roots from its lying trunk, and as a function of phototaxis its new branches tried to stretch to the sun. It looks like the very image of a crouching dragon holding up its head and trying to fly.
