Cloud Stepping Bridge is about 1 kilometer away from Middle Heavenly Gate. It is a well-known sight of Mount Taishan. The bridge is a one-arch stone construction, spanning a gully. To the east of the gully, there is a steep and towering precipice. In the rainy season, large amount of water falls from the precipice, the splashed water in very small drops look like cloud in the distance. Tourists walking on the bridge are usually surrounded by spray and feel like they are walking in the cloud. Luckily when it is sunny, beautiful rainbows appear. The ancients once praised here as a fairyland. The horizontal ground of the precipice is very wide and level, and is called the Imperial Tents Pitching Spot. It is said that when Song Zhenzong, an emperor of the Song Dynasty, came to Mount Taishan and arrived here, he was attracted by the magnificent scenery, so he ordered to pitch tents on the level ground on purpose to sojourn and appreciate the scenery. Up to now, the holes bored by humans on the level ground in which the tent poles were put still can be found.
