To the south of Terrace for Viewing State Lu is Cherish Life Cliff. Its former name was Forsake Life Cliff. Some ancient people believed that by sacrificing their lives by jumping off the cliff, their acts of filial duty would affect gods in Mount Taishan and their prayers for parents would come true. In the Ming Dynasty, a wall was erected here in order to prevent people from abandoning their lives, thus the site was renamed Cherish Life Cliff.
