Tai'an is located in the middle part of Shandong Province, bordering upon Ji'nan, Qufu and Zibo. Because of its important geographical position and convenient traffic conditions, Tai'an becomes the indispensable part of the Eastern Coastal Economy Belt and the Economic Zone around the Bohai Sea. Tai'an is in the region from longitude 116°02' to 117°59' east and latitude 35°38' to 36°28' north, with 176.6 kilometers in length from east to west and 93.5 kilometers in width from south to north, covering an area of 7,762 square kilometers. It consists of two districts (Taishan District and Daiyue District), two county-level cities (Xintai City and Feicheng City) and two counties (Ningyang County and Dongping County), having a population of 5.5 million people.
Situated in the continental half-moist monsoon climate district of the Temperate Zone, Tai'an enjoys a pleasant climate with an annual average solar radiation amount of 117.9 kilocalories per square centimeter, an annual average sunshine time of 2627.1 hours, an annual average temperature of 12.9℃ and an annual average precipitation of 697mm. The total amount of annual average usable water resource is 1.92 billion cubic meters, among which the amount of usable surface water is 1.39 billion cubic meters.
Tai'an is remarkable for its culture and tourist resources, among which Mount Taishan is popular in the universe. In 1982, Tai'an has been authorized by the State Council, to be among the first group of the tourist city opening to the foreign tourists. The name Tai'an is right derived from Mount Taishan and an idiom "Guo Tai Min An" meaning "The country is prosperous and its civilians live in peace". Relying on the gifted tourist resources of Mount Taishan, Tai'an has been honored with "An Excellent Tourist City of China" and "The National Sanitary City".

It has advantages in the traditional items, such as energy, metallurgy, machinery, electron, chemical industry, building materials, textile, biological medicine, food and beverage.
